Santa Maria Syro-Malabar Catholic Mission In Arunachal Pradesh

Published on

The Diocese of Shamshabad Entrusted the Syro Malabar Catholic Mission in Arunachal West along with Lakhimpur district of Assarn to the diocese of Idukki in 2019. The mission, comprising 11 priests, 4 sisters, and 2 brothers, operates through four mission centers: Infant Jesus Mission Center in Ziro, Santa Maria Mission Center in Gumto, Santom Mission Center in Seppa, and Sanjos Mission Center in Raga. These centers focus on spiritual and community development through prayer, education, health services, and social outreach.

The mission’s spiritual ministry includes retreats, fasting prayers, house visits, and Bible study sessions, aimed at nurturing the faith of the community. In education, the mission runs Santa Maria Public School in Raga, Kameng Presidium School in Seppa, Santa Maria Tuition Center in Raga, and Santa Maria Academy in Gumto, emphasizing both academic and spiritual growth. The mission also provides palliative care services and counseling, highlighting its commitment to health and well-being. Youth empowerment and women’s roles are central to the mission’s efforts, with programs like ‘Children of & for God’ fostering spiritual growth among the younger generation. Pastoral care is provided through Sunday Mass, prayer meetings, and other community activities, ensuring the well-being of the Syro Malabar faithful.

The mission adopts a holistic approach to community development, integrating social involvement with education, migrant and pastoral care, and theological education. By engaging in house visits and prayer discussions, the mission strengthens community bonds. Schools and weekend programs facilitate outreach, making the mission’s efforts both inclusive and impactful.

The Santa Maria Syro Malabar Catholic Mission is likely to flourish through continued spiritual growth, educational expansion, and community development initiatives, supported by increased healthcare services and deeper cultural integration. By investing in infrastructure and outreach, the mission will strengthen its impact and expand its reach across the region in the coming years.

Overall, the Santa Maria Mission is steadily growing, guided by prayer and dedication, and continues to expand its religious, social, and educational initiatives across different areas of Arunachal Pradesh.
