Christ’s Light Shines On Hills

Published on

You are the light of the world. A Ctiy built on a hill cannot be hid. (Mt 5:14)

Kristjyoti Catholic Mission (KCM) is the first mission of the Syromalabar Church and Missionary Socitey of St Thomas the Apostle (MST) in the state of Himachal Pradesh. KCM was officially inaugurated on 3rd July 2018. The purpose of the mission is to form a communtiy of faithful in communion with the Faith and Tradition of Syro-Malabar church. Ever since the mission is established, we had given the prime focus on direct evangelization, Catechetical activities and communtiy formation. As a result we have a wonderful communtiy of Christian faithful who are beingt trained after the Syro Malabar Tradition under the Diocese of Faridabad.

Himachal Pradesh is a hilly state and in our mission place most of the people are engaged in apple cultivation and their main livelihood is from apple gardens. Although apple trees have only one yield in a year it provides them with sufficient amount of money to meet the basic necessities of life like food, dress, housing and education. So the people of our place come to us only for their spiritual needs, so we are not much engaged with social work and educational activities which allows us to focus on the spiritual nourishment of people. The main activities of the mission are sharing the Word of God, leading the people to sacramental life, prayer support for the sick, delivering persons from the bondages of evil, conducting house prayers, bible classes, catechetical and charismatic formation for youth and children, giving counselling and guidance for the couples and families tsruggling with issues such as drug addiction and other social challenges and blessing the apple gardens for having good yield.

It was the will of God that He chose MST to be on this hills to plant His Church after the Syro Malabar Tradition. And within a small span of time we have received a very good result. Within the period of six to seven years of MST working in this region we have very good number of faithful who really experience Jesus and declare Jesus as the Lord and Saviour of their life. Recently, by the grace of God we were able to build a prayer hall with the support of the faithful. In recognition of the mission’s growth, the diocese has elevated our mission to the status of a parish. Through God’s grace, Christ’s light continues to shine brightly on the hills of Himachal Pradesh, drawing many to His love and truth.
